Arctic Wilderness Challenge

Facts of the challenge: 


  • Place: Syöte National Park, South Lapland

  • Availability: 1.1.-30.3.

  • Guaranteed departure 11.-17.1. and 25.-31.1.2021

  • Duration: 7 days, 6 nights, approximately hiking with snowshoes 15 km, backcountry skiing 15 km, fat-biking 10 km. 

  • Number of participants: 2 - 20 persons

  • Price: 1280 €/person when 2 - 5 persons, 1190 €/person when 6 - 14 persons, 1090 €/person when 15 - 20 persons. 

  • Accommodation: In warm and tidy shared rooms in bunk beds with sleeping bag and liner. 

  • Full board

  • Languages: Finnish, English, Swedish

  • Price includes: Transport from Oulu Airport to Syöte, guidance, course program due to the itinerary, accommodation in bunk beds, bunk beds in shared rooms, sleeping bags and liners. Meals: Breakfast, soup lunch, dinner, beverages with meals. Sauna and shower every day. 

  • Equipment included in the price: Cross-country skis, boots, sticks, snowshoes, fat-bikes, ice-fishing equipment, winter sleeping bag, sleeping bag liner, mattress, note books and pens for studies.

  • Participants have their own thermos bottle, water bottle, underwear, warm trekking boots, core clothing, thermo clothing, socks, shirts etc. according to cold the winter weather. We rent and sell also high quality outdoor equipment and clothing for winter activities if needed. Please ask the whole list of equipment for the tour and tell us your size.

  • Payment: Cash, credit card, invoice

  • Tour level: Moderate. Previous trekking experience is not obligatory. Weather might be cold but normally between -5 - -25 C. 

  • By additional cost: Winter clothing set 90 €/person/tour. Snacks, beer, wine, soft drinks.

  • We require participants to have their own insurance for skiing and other outdoor activities. 

We reserve all the rights to change the program if necessary due to the weather or snow conditions or safety reasons.


Day 1. Arrival to Oulu, transport to Syöte. Meal, introduction, sauna, accommodation.

Day 2. Breakfast. Planning an expedition to the Arctic area: Ten steps to a safe, unforgettable and unique experience. Basics of Arctic conditions, snow knowledge. Fat-biking trip on winter trails. Lunch. Ice fishing. Dinner. Sauna and shower. 

Day 3. Breakfast. First-aid day in wilderness. Lunch. Orienteering skills. Dinner. A night trekking trip in darkness with snowshoes on ice covered lake. Good opportunities to see the Northern Lights. Sauna and shower. 

Day 4. Breakfast. Day with the cross-country skis and sleds, a skiing trip to the forest. Introduction of equipment you will need in arctic. Lunch. Cooking with different stoves and making fire. Fixing your own snow shelter. Dinner. Night in snow shelter. 

Day 5. Breakfast. Leading skills, being a member of a group, motivation and mental health, discussion about mental training and a mindfulness-style workout. Snowshoe trip to remote cabin. Lunch. In the evening teamwork: Heating up the traditional Finnish sauna. Dinner and accommodation in wilderness cabin. 

Day 6. Breakfast. Walking back to Syöte area. After one hour transport we meet the huskies. One hour husky sled tour in beautiful views in South Lapland. Picnic lunch. Transport back to accommodation. Sauna and shower. Dinner. 

Day 7. Breakfast. Time to pack up the luggage. Transport back to Airport.
