Five days husky tour
Our five days husky tour will guide through the snowy area of Kainuu, taking you on a trip of the pure Finnish beautiful nature. Learn how to drive a sledge team full of friendly huskies and explore the wilderness with your guide. Find out more about Finnish history, while driving along the eastern border and relax in the traditional Finnish smoke sauna.

1. day, Sunday
Welcome to Oulu international airport. We´ll pick you up from the airport and our adventure is ready to start! Transfer to Suomussalmi via the beautiful snowy Finnish landscapes to Kultainen Kukko restaurant in the Suomussalmi village. The restaurant is famous for local and delicious food. After a good meal we drive about 20 km to Puras and spend our first night in Portin Majatalo, the historically rich region of Suomussalmi. Transport duration: 3 hours
2. day, Monday
After breakfast the first safari day starts with practicing in Zilivonkkelis husky farm in Puras. You will have suits and boots to keep you warm. First we meet the guides and dogs and have a little walk around the farm, after that we give you riding and safety instructions. You will learn how to handle the sledge and dogs. Then harnessing the dogs and we are ready to start the first day round trip. We are riding about 10 km in varied terrain. Lunch will be at the campfire in forest. Then the trip continues and we ride another 10 kilometers in the nice white landscapes, then coming back to husky farm and transport back to Portin majatalo. Dinner, sauna and accommodation in Portin Majatalo. Duration 20 km - 5 hours
3. day, Tuesday
Transport to Zilivonkkelis husky farm after breakfast. Safari starts from the farm and route follows the Russian border line to Saapaskoski cottage in Yli-Vuokki. We`ll enjoy the beautiful quite wilderness with our fluffy arctic dogs. In the nature we have a packed lunch listening to the stories about the war and the historical Road of Raate. Luggage will be transported to accommodation by car. Dinner, old style finnish sauna and accommodation in Saapaskoski cottage. Duration 35km - 7 hours
4. day, Wednesday
Safari continues after feeding the dogs and breakfast. Today's route goes through the old and fresh forests on the Eastern border winter trail. During the lunch, guide will tell us tales about ancient times and people of Kainuu. At evening we’ll arrive to Vienan Lomat, where we got a tasty dinner. After that, you’ll get an experience of special finnish smoke sauna and maybe a refreshing swimming in the frozen lake. After this we´ll have a nice little event in Lappish kota where you can taste some traditional Kainuu delicates, baked on the open fire. Accommodation in Vienan Lomat, an old border guardian house in single or double rooms. Duration 30 km - 6 hours
5. day, Thursday
Day begins at Kuivajärvi with a nutritious breakfast. You have an opportunity to go to smoke sauna to have a nice after warmth and take another ice swim if you want! Today we will have a nice round trip in Viena Carelian area which is important for its rich history of Finnish storytelling and Kalevala, the finnish national epic. Lunch in Vienan Lomat, where you have the possibility to go the sauna and take a shower. Transport back to Oulu airport. Safari duration 15km - 4 hours, transport to Oulu 3,5 hours
