Ski Touring Holiday

Welcome to enjoy Cross‑Country Ski Touring Week in Southern Lapland & Northern Ostrobothnia

Spend a full winter week gliding through some of Finland’s most beautiful cross‑country skiing terrain — the rolling hills, quiet forests and hills of Pudasjärvi, Taivalkoski and Posio. This is a journey into the heart of traditional Nordic skiing: long, flowing tracks, crisp winter air, and the peaceful rhythm of moving through untouched snow with a local guide who knows every curve of the landscape.

Your home for the week is a modern, welcoming hotel Pikku-Syöte, surrounded by wilderness. From the windows, the view opens toward snowy fells and deep pine forests.

Experience the essence of classic skiing on hundreds of well‑maintained tracks winding through fells, forests and frozen lakes. The terrain varies from gentle, flowing routes ideal for long, steady days to more challenging climbs that reward you with sweeping views over the winter landscape.

Snow conditions are reliable, the air is clean and crisp, and the silence of the northern wilderness follows you everywhere. Whether you’re an experienced skier or returning to the sport after years, this region offers the perfect balance of beauty, challenge and calm.

An Active Winter Holiday in Pure Northern Nature

Beyond skiing, the week offers the quiet luxury of being fully immersed in winter. Enjoy slow mornings with pale arctic light, picnic lunches by a fire in the forest, and the chance to spot wildlife tracks in fresh snow. Evenings bring hearty local flavours, sauna warmth and the possibility of northern lights dancing above the hills. This is an active holiday that restores energy rather than drains it — a chance to breathe deeply, move freely and reconnect with nature at its most serene. Welcome, and enjoy!

Itinerary

  • Arrival at Rovaniemi Airport and transfer to Pikku-Syöte, where the newly refurbished hotel welcomes you with Scandinavian style and panoramic views over the snowy fells. After settling into your modern room, enjoy a special dinner featuring local ingredients and northern flavours. Short briefing, equipment check, introduction of Syöte National Park, maps and a week program after dinner. Your first night above the treeline sets the tone for the week.

  • Tour begins from our log cabin after a complete Finnish breakfast.

Great breakfast in Pikku-Syöte hotel. Our first ski tour begins at the Syöte Nature Centre and leads through quiet forests to the wilderness hut of Ahmatupa.

From there, we continue toward Ahmavaara, where wide views open across the national park. A rewarding 26 km loop brings us back to the Nature Centre — and then back to the comfort of Pikku-Syöte.

  • After the breakfast transport to the gates of Syöte National Park.

Trail goes on wooded terrain. Teerivaara in Syöte national park gives us open views to lakes and forests below and around the hills. Behind snow covered candle trees we find a nice hut to enjoy some snacks.

After snacks we continue walking down  through the snow covered old spruce forest to Annintupa wilderness hut. Setting up the fire, having a picnic lunch and after lunch a short snowshoeing back to the starting point.

Transport back to the cabin or hotel. Dinner, sauna and relaxation. (Hiking distance approximately 8 km in 7 hours including breaks)

  • A classic Syöte day: from Pikkusyöte we glide through snowy valleys toward Oksanperä, then continue to the Nature Centre for a break. The return route follows rolling terrain and quiet forest tracks — a perfect full-day ski in one of Finland’s most beloved national parks. Evening sauna and dinner await at Pikku-Syöte.

  • After a tasty breakfast we drive 10 minutes and come to our cabin. From the Taigalampi cabin we head into the forest trails of Naamanka and the scenic Pytkyn area. This slightly shorter 20 km tour allows time to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere before returning to Pikku-Syöte’s warm hospitality.

  • We start our day with a hearty breakfast and continue entering the car. A transport to Posio ( 1,5 hours by car) varied and beautiful route across Posio’s winter landscapes. We ski from Ahola to Kirintövaara, continue toward Himmerki, and glide along the shores of Lake Posionjärvi before returning to Ahola. Back at Pikku-Syöte, a delicious dinner and the glow of the fell views complete the day.

  • The last cross-country ski touring day. After a tasty breakfast approximately one hour transfer by car to Taivalkoski area.

Our final ski day takes us to Taivalkoski’s well‑maintained trail network. The Pahkakuru loop offers flowing terrain, peaceful forests and the satisfaction of a final 20 km tour.

In the evening, we celebrate the week with a beautiful farewell dinner in Pikku‑Syöte’s cosy restaurant, where local ingredients and northern flavours shine.

  • Departure day. After a tasty and nutritious breakfast one last look at the snowy fells — and a week of winter memories to take home! Transfer by car to Rovaniemi Airport or bus/railway station.
