CULTURE & WILDLIFE - FACTS AND ITINERARY

Local guides will help you to enjoy your unforgettable active holiday with all of your senses! Welcome to see, feel and taste the nature of Northern Finland!


Incredibly fresh air, blue lakes, and varied easy paths invite you to South Lapland. Wellness and adventure meet in this nature-based holiday. On this tour you can also explore the rich Eastern Finnish food culture, taste fresh water straight from the pond or catch a fish and cook it on open fire. Day trips are moderate and planned for people with normal health condition. 


Luggage will be transported always  by car to the next accommodation which may vary from log cabins to luxurious apartments. During the trip, breaks will be held in beautiful locations and picnic lunch is served usually outdoors. Sauna, swimming in the lake and midnight sun are pure Finnish experiences!

  • Price includes: Guide services, accommodation, sauna/shower every evening, good quality bike, helmet, transportation from Oulu airport to the starting point and back, luggage transportation between accommodations, and above-mentioned meals on the tour

  • Equipment: Participants have their own clothing due to the weather. Please ask for the whole list of equipment after booking.

  • Equipment included in the price: Good quality mountain bike with fat tires, helmet

ITINERARY

1st day:
Arrive at Oulu Airport or railway station, where your guide is waiting for you. Approximately two-hours transport to Syƶte National Park. Meeting the group and accommodation in cosy twin/bunk bedrooms. Welcoming dinner, short briefing, the introduction of Syƶte National Park, maps, and a program after dinner. Safety issues and discussion about sustainable tourism and how we put it into practice during our trip. Hot sauna and sweet dreams in a peaceful and quiet cabin. 


2nd day:
Tour begins from Syƶte after a complete Finnish breakfast with many local delicacies. Short transport to Syƶte National Park visitor centre to hear stories about the Ice age and the special features of the area. After the exhibition and presentation, we start to explore the nature around us with nice and easy mountain fat-bikes. The route goes on beautiful hills and through the old pine forests. The terrain is very varied; the route goes up and down in a few square kilometers area.


Lovely picnic lunch at the wooden shelter by a beautiful lake. The circle route takes us back to our starting point. Transport back to the accommodation, dinner together, hot sauna with special wild herb treatment, and a refreshing swim in the clear wilderness lake. Day's distance is approximately 20 km.


3rd day:

After breakfast, it is time to explore Finnish nature and its special features with your local guide by foot! After a few minutes of transport, we'll visit interesting Annintupa hut and Teerivaara trails which gives you a learning experience about the Finnish geology and history of the local area. The trail goes on in varied terrain, mostly small forest paths. Visit in  Teerivaara wilderness hut which is one of the most interesting natural sites in the Syƶte area because of its beautiful views. When we get down from the hill it's best to approach the destination in peace and silence. There might be some birds and other animals to see and hear. A short hiking trip to the highest point of the hill with a view to bright wilderness lakes and wetlands. On the hill, we will have a peaceful moment, a short mindfulness-style exercise with the whole group.

During the trip a picnic lunch in old spruce forest. After lunch walk back to the visitor center and transport back to the cabin. Dinner, sauna experience, and accommodation. Day's distance is approximately 10 km.


4th day:
Soon after a refreshing and tasty breakfast we start the cultural day by hiking in beautiful pine forest scenery. It is said that here is the cleanest air in the world. Transport to the starting point of the Rytivaara circular trail. Picnic lunch during the route. Tour continues to footsteps of Finnish tenant farmers, slash-and-burn agriculture, and old wilderness traditions. Coffee break with a tasty local forest berry pie. A bit more hiking and transport back to accommodation place. Day's hiking distance is approximately 10 km in 4 hours.

5th day:

After a tasty breakfast transport to Hossa National Park for mountain biking day. Hossa is our newest National Park near the Russian border and really a pearl amongst Finnish National Parks. Hossa is an excellent destination for hikers and bikers: The trails run along pine heaths and invite you to for hiking and biking. The crystal-clear lakes are also perfect for canoeing and fishing enthusiasts. Rock paintings of the biggest canyon lake in Finland called Julma-Ɩlkky and famous cliffs of VƤrikalliot depict stories of shamanism from thousands of years ago.


Picnic lunch is enjoyed during the day. Approximately 50 min. transport, dinner, and accommodation at the Arola Farm. Day's cycling distance is approximately 20 km in 5 hours. 


6th day:

After breakfast, it's time to start the most exciting day in the wilderness! Short hiking to rapids and the old water mill, snack by the river. In the evening you will have a unique opportunity to participate once in a lifetime experience, bear, and wildlife observing trip! It's more than usual that you meet magnificent brown bears, king of the forest in its territory. After visiting the hides it is time to enjoy a celebration wild food dinner, accommodation in shared rooms. Sauna available. Day's hiking distance approx. 5 km.

7th day: 

Departure day. After a nice and nutritious breakfast transfer by car to the airport.
