FAMILY WILDERNESS SKILLS - FACTS AND ITINERARY

The accommodation is arranged in our beautiful Taigalampi cabin, in twin rooms with all the modern facilities and a cosy atmosphere. Sauna is warm every day and you have also the swimming opportunity in the small wilderness lake just behind the cabin!

Breakfasts will be served in the cabin, lunch soup and sandwiches on the daily walking trip, and dinners at the cabin.


A few days in this kind of strong and beautiful nature calms you down, and your blood pressure and stress-level drop. This holiday gives you the opportunity to meet yourself and the members of your family surrounded by healing old forests, fells, and lakes. Welcome, and enjoy!

  • Accommodation: In a big cosy log cabin, in twin/bunk bedrooms 

  • Price includes: Transport from Oulu Airport to Syöte National Park and back, activities due to the program, guidance, transport to the places of activities, meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner), accommodation in double/twin/bunk bedrooms, sauna, and shower every day.

  • The Price doesn’t include flights.

  • Equipment: Participants have their own outdoor clothing due to the weather. Please ask for the whole list of equipment after booking.

  • Equipment included in the price: All the special outdoor equipment for activities, 

  • By an additional cost: Single room

  • Supplements: Extra night in cabin 60 €/person, aurora hunting by car 35 €/person.

ITINERARY

1st day:
Arrive at Oulu Airport or a bus station, where your guide is waiting for you. Approximately two hours of transport to Taigalampi cabin. Meeting the group and accommodation in shared rooms.


Welcoming dinner, short briefing, the introduction of Syöte National Park, and the program after dinner. Safety issues and discussion about sustainable tourism and how we put it into practice during our trip. Hot sauna and sweet dreams surrounded by peaceful and quiet nature.


2nd day:

Activities begin after a complete Finnish breakfast with many local delicacies. Dressing up for the day outside of the cabin. 


First of all, the most important thing is you and your family! Get to know each other, a short intro practice. Introduction of equipment needed during the week. Making firewood for the tea and coffee, basic knowledge about the planning, nature, and camping. Preparing the lunch for the group in the Lapland tepee. 


After lunch, we get the idea of using a map and a compass and have a short practice of navigation in the forest. 
Camping training: Different kinds of tents, mattresses, and sleeping bags. Outdoor cooking equipment. 


Dinner, sauna experience, and accommodation in tents outside of the cabin! 

3rd day:

After breakfast, it is time to explore Finnish nature and its special features with your local guide on foot! After ten minutes of transport, we'll visit Teerivaara hut and trails which gives you a learning experience about the Finnish geology and history of the local area. The trail goes on in varied terrain, mostly small forest paths.


Visit in Teerivaara wilderness hut which is one of the most interesting natural sites in the Syöte area because of its beautiful views down from the fell towards the National Park. 


When we get down from the hill it's best to approach the destination in peace and silence. There might be some birds and other animals to see and hear. A short hiking trip to the highest point of the hill with a view of the great forests and wetlands. On the top of the hill, we will have a peaceful moment, a short mindfulness-style exercise with the whole group.


For the lunch, tasty soup is served at our restaurant in Visitor Center. Transport back to the cabin. 
After a break, it is time to have an easy but interesting canoeing safari on the lakes near the accommodation. Approximately two hours canoeing or kayaking tour, picnic on the shore, and walking back to the cabin. 
A local food dinner, sauna experience, and accommodation in twin rooms.


Today's distance is approximately 5 km hiking and 5 km paddling.

4th day: 

​Soon after a refreshing and tasty breakfast, we arrive at Syöte Visitor Center to hear stories about the Ice age and the special features of the area. After the exhibition and presentation, we start to explore the nature around us with nice and easy mountain fat-bikes. The route goes on beautiful hills and through the old pine forests. The terrain is very varied; the route goes up and down in a few square kilometers area.


Lovely picnic lunch at the wooden shelter by a beautiful lake. The circle route takes us back to our starting point. Transport back to the accommodation, dinner together, hot sauna, and a refreshing swim in crystal clear water. 


Day's distance is approximately 20 km by a mountain bike.

5th day:

​After a tasty breakfast transport to Taivalkoski area for another hiking day with a culturally rich village and an old grocery store in the village center. 
Hiking in the Soiperoinen area which is famous for crystal clear ponds and beautiful views. The top adventure today is climbing up to the highest point of Syöte National Park, to the fell called Pyhitys.


Pyhitys is an old Seita-place, sacrificing place of ancient Samì people. Sami people are the only indigenous people in Europe nowadays. Wonderful views are seen from the stony top of the fell to the great lakes and forests below! Picnic and sandwich on the trip. 


A soup lunch is enjoyed during the day in the old grocery store and cafe´ in Taivalkoski village. 


Approximately 40 min. transport back to Syöte, celebration dinner, and accommodation in the cabin.


The day's distance is approximately 10 km in 5 hours. 

6th day:

Departure day. After a nice and nutritious breakfast transfer to Oulu Airport or bus station. 

We reserve all the rights to change the activities' order or the program's content due to the weather or other conditions.
